2014 Chancellor's Professors
April 29, 2014
“A good teacher is like a candle -- it consumes itself to light the way for others.”
- Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, translated from Turkish
It is always gratifying to recognize men and women who distinguished themselves as members of our world-class faculty. I am proud to recognize three exemplary professors who have earned the appointment of 2014 Chancellor’s Professors.
The Chancellor’s Professor is the most notable appointment a faculty member can attain at IUPUI. It recognizes senior faculty members who display a record of extensive accomplishment and leadership in teaching, research and campus/professional service.
- Simon Atkinson is an internationally-recognized kidney biology researcher who chairs the Department of Biology in the School of Science. He helped overhaul the Medical Biophysics doctorate degree and the Indiana Biomedical Gateway Program. He is former president of the IUPUI Faculty Council and was instrumental in restructuring the university-wide policy on intellectual property.
- Linda Adele Goodine is a professor in the Herron School of Art and Design whose inspirational teaching has had an impact on generations of photographers. Goodine models aspirations of her students in that she is a prolific and highly-respected artist who has exhibited more than 100 times regionally, nationally, and internationally. Goodine is strongly committed to community outreach at IUPUI.
- Richard Gunderman is professor of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, pediatrics in the School of Medicine, philosophy in the School of Liberal Arts. He is also a professor of Philanthropic Studies. Gunderman has developed unique and valuable courses such as Medicine’s Human Image; Religion and the Life Sciences; and Perspectives on Health, Disease and Healing. His school, campus, university, national, and international service is extensive.
These 2014 Chancellor’s Professors are faculty who have contributed in concrete, demonstrable ways to the development of IUPUI as an academic community of exceptional quality and integrity; as well as to their disciplines through the creation and application of knowledge.
