Flu vaccine available for all IUPUI staff, faculty and students
Oct. 8, 2013
IUPUI Campus Health announces that it has received a total of 8,000 seasonal flu vaccines. The flu vaccines are free to all IUPUI faculty, staff and students. Faculty, staff and students must present a valid IUPUI picture ID in order to receive their flu shot.
IUPUI CH will be holding multiple outreach flu clinics through November, including one at the Campus Center on October 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Campus Health will also provide flu vaccines at the IUPUI Employee Health & Benefits Fair on October 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please refer to the IUPUI HS Flu Vaccine webpage for detailed information on other outreach clinics. Faculty, staff and students are strongly encouraged to get their flu vaccine at one of these outreach clinics. These clinics are staffed in order to make the process quick and easy.
Flu shots are also available at IUPUI Campus Health (Coleman Hall, Suite 100; 1140 West Michigan Street) for IUPUI faculty, staff and students. Flu vaccines are available at Campus Center Student Health (CE 213) for students only.
The best tool to prevent flu is to receive a flu shot. The CDC recommends a flu shot to all adults, unless they have a specific contraindication. An annual flu shot has been shown to decrease sick days and physician office visits in adults. In addition, appropriate hygiene procedures, such as coughing into one’s sleeve and frequent use of hand sanitizer, are useful measures to prevent the spread of flu.
